Join Larry Yazzie, award-winning sculptor specializing in both stone carvings and bronze sculptures, as he gives you an insiders view of his casting process to create his bronze sculptures. Artists usually create bronze sculptures starting from a clay model, but Larry’s process starts with a stone carving. 

Larry works with many different types of hard stones, including Carrara marble, and doesn’t use models – he allows the stone to speak to him and then visualizes what it might become. He states, “Each stone has its own spirit. It is up to me to learn about that spirit and how to best represent it in the sculpture. I do this by studying the stone meditatively, seeking to express what it tells me through my emotions.”. 
In years past, a partnership developed between Larry Yazzie and Eddie Basha, the artist and the collector. Larry provided the beloved sculptures that became cast bronzes that Eddie gifted. You can find several of his stone carvings and bronze sculptures currently on display in the museum.

Larry resides in Camp Verde, Arizona near the Navajo Reservation where he grew up. He studied art at Peninsula College in Port Angeles, Washington and at the institute of American Indian Arts which he graduated from with honors.
