Unforgiven (1992)

This epic Western was directed by and stars Clint Eastwood in the lead role. Co-stars include Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, and Richard Harris. Filmed in Alberta, Canada, the movie follows a retired, aging outlaw, William Munny (Clint Eastwood), who reluctantly returns to his violent past for one last bounty: killing two cowboys who mutilated a prostitute in the town of Big Whiskey, Wyoming. He teams up with his old partner Ned Logan (Morgan Freeman) and a young gunfighter, the Schofield Kid, facing off against the brutal sheriff Little Bill Daggett (Gene Hackman) and confronting the harsh realities and costs of violence, ultimately revealing that the line between hero and villain is blurred. 

 Unforgiven was nominated for nine Academy Awards, winning four, including Best Picture and Best Director for Clint Eastwood, Best Supporting Actor for Gene Hackman, and Best Film Editing. It is considered a masterpiece that offers a dark, realistic look at the Western genre.
