This Western movie was produced and directed by Clint Eastwood who also stars in the lead role. A mysterious, nameless preacher (Clint Eastwood) arrives to defend a group of gold prospectors from a ruthless mining baron and his hired guns, becoming their protector and catalyst for standing up to greed. The preacher’s identity is often interpreted as a supernatural force like Death or an avenging angel. The film blends classic Western themes with hints of supernatural horror as the “Preacher” uses his formidable skills and moral authority to fight injustice in a remote California mining camp. The title is a reference to Death as one of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse riding a pale horse; in the film, the preacher rides a pale horse. Pale Rider became the highest-grossing Western of the 1980s.
